Pendulum: There Was a Party: Who Has Jazzed APC

By Dele Momodu Fellow Nigerians, let me state once again that I have never been a member of Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, but I was almost a fanatical supporter of its Presidential flagbearer, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, in the 2015 Presidential election. The reason was simple. We were mostly tired of PDP after wasting loads of opportunities in 16 years. Even hardened members of that Party would readily admit to their myriads of gaffes, faux pas, misfortune and misadventure which seemed uncontrollable over those unfortunate years, particularly in the last days of the Jonathan administration. Despite our strident pleas for sanity to prevail, the party pressed on with its crass arrogance that it can rule with impunity for eternity. For that reason, we desperately craved a change and the amalgamation, or cocktail, of political parties called APC was forged in that season of the rape of Nigerian people. With PDP’s unrelenting assault on the people despite the emergence of the mega p

The Battle of The Nigerian Generals

Image
By Dele Momodu Fellow Nigerians, I once wrote an article about the Nigerian Mafia on this very page. Yes, Nigeria is a Mafia nation and there are a few Mafia families in play. Some are peopled by civilians, whilst some are a group of military men comprising retired soldiers. There is also a mixture of civilians and soldiers like the Kaduna Mafia comprising Northern elites from both the civilian populace and the military. Apart from the Generals’ Mafia which includes General Olusegun Obasanjo, all of these Mafia families usually consist of men of Northern extraction. There were only two visible Mafia families in the South, namely the Awolowo and Zikist Mafia. However, the latter’s influence diminished long before the Owelle Of Onitsha, Chief Nnamdi Azikwe, who was the arrowhead, passed away, whilst the former has had its glory days dulled by the fractious disagreements which broke out between the acolytes of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, The Odole of Ife, after he exchanged mortality for imm

A Prayer For Buhari And His Ruling Party

By Dele Momodu Fellow Nigerians, I don’t know about you but I’m truly worried that our dear beloved country may have fallen into the hands of those who do not see unity and nation-building as a priority. Before I go on, let me tell a true life story. In 2014, I was on a bus ride with the current Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and a few others. We were on our way to view a suitable office for the Muhammadu Buhari Presidential Campaign office in Abuja. As always, discussions dovetailed from one topic to another. The one I will never forget was when the then Governor of Rivers State, Amaechi, suddenly turned to me and asked my opinion on whether Buhari should drop the title ‘General’ from his name. Amaechi did not say what was behind that thought, but I suspected that many people felt it could be an albatross being a sad reminder of his days as a military dictator. Some young folks in the bus had apparently suggested this to the Governor as brand consultants bu

Robber’s Overstretched Luck Ends In Tragedy

You can rob me once and Rest In Peace (R.I.P.) or you can rob me twice and Roast In Pieces (R.I.P.). Sunday the October 21st, 2018 was one of those days when a daredevil, career criminal in the Bronx chose the latter. Earlier on that tragic day, 32 year old Daniel Meeks went to rob Mr Jin Joe Chen’s store by jumping the counter and carted away money from the register. Not satisfied with his earlier heist, Meeks overdramatized his luck when he went to the same store a few hours later to rob Jin for the second time the same day. As he jumped the counter to carry out his second robbery, Jin pulled his gun and blew Meeks into pieces and Meeks died. However report has it that Jin will not be charged because he is a licensed owner of the gun.

Hurricane Sowore Will Blow Away Corrupt Officials. By Kola Olaniran

Image
Hurricane Sowore Will Blow Away Corrupt Officials https://www.gofundme.com/sowore2019 It is often said that when you weather several storms, you become a storm yourself. I don’t know if those corrupt officials in Nigeria believe in climate change and if they do, they must definitely have gotten the forecast that a wind of immeasurable proportion is about to blow them off and I don’t know what measure or measures they have put in place to survive the impending storm. All across the world, we have been hearing of Hurricane Sandy, hurricanes Harvey, hurricane Katrina, hurricane Alex but when hurricane reaches the level where it is tagged ‘Hurricane Sowore’, those corrupt public officials in Nigeria don’t just start stockpiling foods at home, they need a serious evacuation. Thus when Omoyele Sowore announced that he is running for president, he sent jitters down the spines of many officials who despite calling him ‘inconsequential’ know that anything Sowore touches turns to gold.

Waffle House Hero Meets Gofundme Target In One Day

Image
Peace loving people of the world have opened their hearts and wallets to donate funds to the appeal of James Shaw Jr, an unarmed man who wrestled the shooter of innocent victims to the ground by courageously taking away his gun. Mr Shaw in a sail or sink moment confronted the gun man when his own life was in grave danger. He subdued the gun man who had to run away in a cowardly manner. For this brave act, Shaw has become a hero who saved more lives that would have been wasted by a deranged lunatic. Within one day, Shaw’s Gofundme Goal of raising $15k has overflown to $105k contributions from nearly three thousand donors.
