Pregnant Nigerian Lawyer Killed By A Nigerian Police Officer.

Late Bolanle Raheem

The euphoria that greeted this year Christmas has turned sour for the family, friends and well wishers of a Nigerian pregnant lawyer, Mrs Bolanle Raheem who was gruesomely murdered by a Nigerian police officer simply known as ASP Drambi Vandi.

Mrs Raheem who was returning to her home from the Sunday Christmas service was said to be in the car with her husband and her child when the trigger-happy, blood-letting Drambi snuffed life out of her and her unborn babies as late Bolanle who was seven month pregnant was expecting twins according to the statement released by her family.

According to the information obtained by the Olaniran News Network (ONN), ASP Vandi and his rogue officers who were attached to the notorious Ajiwe police station had tried to stop Raheem’s vehicle for reasons yet to be known. ASP Vandi asked them to park and Bolanle’s husband who was driving the car needed the vehicle in front of him to move so that he could park well, and immediately the rogue police officer shot at a close range right into her chest. On seeing what happened, the other two police officers fled the crime scene.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed the dastardly act. Hundeyin confirmed that Vandi and the other two officers have been arrested and detained. The three officers have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.

Just few weeks ago, an innocent Nigerian, Gafaru Buraimoh was killed by a police officer from the same Ajiwe police station.

Nigerians of all walks of life are now asking how long will these senseless killings of innocent citizens continue in the country? Bolanle Olukanni a popular TV host and documentary filmmaker in her Twitter account says: “Bolanle Raheem was my real estate agent. She supported me in my goal and was always cheering me on. She was so hardworking, positive and such a cheerful spirit. She has a husband and child. I can't even say more. The Nigerian police are killers”.

Popular Skit maker Mr Macaroni’s statement says,

“A Nigerian Police Officer from Ajiwe division shot and killed Bolanle Raheem on Xmas day. It is from this same division an Officer killed Gafaru Buraimoh about 2 weeks ago. This barbarism by the Nigerian Police must come to an end. These Murderers must pay for their crimes!!!

The Executive Director of the Poverty Eradication Group and ONN CEO, Mr Kola Olaniran in his statement condemns the gruesome murder of Bolanle. Raging in a fit of anger, Olaniran questions the rationale for keeping officers with no periodic mental evaluation of the officers allowed to carry firearms. In his Twitter account, he states, “The gruesome murder of a pregnant lawyer Mrs Bolanle Raheem by a senseless ASP of d NPF @NigerianPolice is hereby condemned. How long will the force be keeping these mentally deranged lunatics with firearms? This barbaric act must not go unpunished. #justiceforBolanle

Presidential candidates in the coming election Mr Omoyele Sowore, Atiku Abubakar and others have also issued statements condemning the bizarre murder. Atiku in his message says, “The shooting of Bolanle Raheem by a police officer is heartbreaking and stands condemned. This latest shooting calls to attention the urgent need for Police reforms that will sanitise the Force and bring it in line with best policing practices.” Sowore in his Twitter account writes: A trigger happy @policeng officer has taken the life of this innocent lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem, sad that Nigeria police hasn’t learnt any lessons from the #EndSARS uprising. A system of impunity that is used to snuffing life out Nigerians must be stopped! #WeCantContinueLikeThis

We hope Justice will be served in this senseless murder.
