The Obidient Movement. By Kola Olaniran
They call them names: Zombidients, Obidiots, name it but they hold on tenaciously to what they believe in.
The Obidient Movement is a movement named after Mr Peter Obi, a Nigerian presidential candidate of the Labour Party who has come to disrupt the Nigerian political space in a manner never seen before.
In asserting himself, Peter Obi, a former member of the opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and a running mate to the party’s presidential flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 election broke away from the usual tradition of servitude to emerge the candidate of a fast growing political party, the Labour Party.
Peter Obi, well known for prudent management of resources became the darling of a mass movement, the Obidient Movement. The movement is growing at an astronomical pace that it has sent jitters into the camps of the two front-running major parties: The All Peoples Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The election that either of these two parties once saw as a walkover has taken a new dimension that can no longer be easily predicted.
The Obidient Movement has become a massive structure that the Labour Party rests on. Most educated Nigerians are now embracing this movement with enthusiastic vigor, rejuvenating the idea that there is hope for Nigeria.
In rekindling the hope for Nigeria, members of this movement have embarked on house to house campaigns, knocking on doors to create awareness in different communities and sensitize the grassroot people on the need to stop being onlookers but participators in their own affairs.

Some members of this movement are adherently overzealous to the point of risking their lives by climbing the high telephone masts and the highest mountain in Africa to hoist the Labour Party’s flags. So also are massive properties being donated to ensure Peter Obi’s victory. On Facebook, a man named David Gabriel says “PIs I want to donate my one room selfcontain and my live savings, I won't eat until OBI victory is ensure”

Home and abroad, the Obidient Movement is growing and the overwhelming support of members for Peter Obi at the Chatham House in London lent credence to this. Mr Obi who honored the invitation of the think tank policy institute on Monday January 16, 2023 presented his program to the global views.
Shortly after presenting his case at the Chatham House, Obi had the honor of being interviewed by the Sky News, a gesture that was not extended to the other two presidential candidates who also presented their cases at the prestigious Chatham House.
Whether Peter Obi wins this election or not, the Obidient movement has come to stay and its message is clear that it will no longer be business as usual for Nigeria’s political elites.
