Former South African President, Thabo Mbeki is dead. 

Born on June 18, 1942, Mbeki died on January 2, 2024.

Mr Mbeki was Deputy President (Vice President) under President Nelson Mandela from 1994 to 1999.


An anti-apartheid activist who fought in the struggle for freedom along with Mr Mandela, Mbeki became President on June 14, 1999 and served till September 24, 2008.


He was succeeded by Mr Jacob Zuma.

Bayo Onanuga Bayo Onanuga the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy has released his attack on the New York times over its report on Nigeria’s economic downturn that imperils the growth of the country through bad policies. Ruth Maclean and Ismail Aiwal of the New York Times in their story titled, ‘Nigeria confronts its worst economic crisis in a generation’ berates the economic stagnation of the country that predates Tinubu’s emergence as President.
