Firing Squad For 10 Naira Theft by K. Olaniran

Image
Unlike many Nigerian government officials who steal money in billions, the arms of the law caught up with a Nigerian notorious robber who met his waterloo for stealing, guess how much? 10 Naira!!! In Nigeria, those who commit picayune crime of petty thefts get harsher punishments than those who steal big. Isiaka Buhari popularly known as 'Might Joe who terrorized the neighbourhood in Mushin, Lagos State, Nigeria was arrested for stealing 10 Naira from one Mr Osayunana a hotel bar attendant in the early '70s. He was thereafter led to the bar beach where he was tied to the pole and silenced by bullets. Public officials are stealing money in billions today and no one has deemed it fit to recommend life sentence or death penalty to serve as a deterrent to other would-be killers of our economy.

Dasuki Me, God Will Dasuki You by Kola Ola Olaniran

These days, being at the right place and at the right time may not just be enough but using the right public relations stunt may seal the deal. Three beggars went to a popular street of Lagos to solicit for alms. Two of the three beggars had arrived five hours earlier with their paraphernalia of office: a small mat, a small tent and 2 small plates in their hands. They used the same plates for two purposes, to collect alms and to buy foods. When these two beggars arrived at the spot at 10.00 a.m. they spread the tent and the mat and the business of the day began. Three hours later, they barely made money that could buy them lunch as people were giving them only their chicken changes. Their method of begging was, "please bless me and God will bless you ten folds" Five hours later, the third beggar arrived at the same spot with a big basket in his hand. He had no tent to shield himself from the scorching sun nor the mat to sit on. He went straight to his two professio

Diezani Is ill by Kola Ola Olaniran

She had everything at her beck and call. She was dining with kings, she was feasting with queens, she was partying with princes and she was reveling with princesses.  She was a paragon of beauty with shining skin, rosy cheeks, sexy and dazzling eyeballs, soft lips, natural hunch shoulder, well-padded hips, well-structured body.... name it, she had it all-naturally endowed.  Once you looked at her, you wouldn't want to keep your eyes off her. Because of her, men had become neck twisters and neck breakers. If she passed by you, you would want to twist your neck to take a look at her again and again.  Someone once put her beauty in alphabetical order of adorable, beautiful, colorful, delectable, elegant, flamboyant, glamorous and gorgeous.....zestful.  She was given the juiciest appointment of petroleum Minister in the former government of ex president Goodluck Jonathan and she was alleged to have stolen about 9 billion US Dollars which means if her wealth was made

Nigeria Celebrates 55 Years Of Independence

Image
Nigeria, the most populous country in the black world gained independence from the British Colony on October 1, 1960. The country that teethered for over 50 years in the edge of mismanagement has now found itself in the hands of a new President who is said to be “a man of impeccable integrity”. The new President Muhammadu Buhari won the election which cut across ethnic and religious lines. He beat the incumbent President whose tenure was marred by indiscipline, insecurity and corruption. All across the country, the independence day anniversary was celebrated with funfares. Many Nigerians were draped In the country's green-white-green color and Nigerian flags were on display. Nigerians abroad had a field day celebrating too. From the City of London to New York and elsewhere, there were widespread jubilations that the country has regained its lost glory. God bless Nigeria.

The Tyranny Of Saraki Family And The Kwarans’ Struggle For Liberation By Remi Oyeyemi “

The Tyranny Of Saraki Family And The Kwarans’ Struggle For Liberation By Remi Oyeyemi “Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.”- Frederick Douglass (Jan.1818 – Feb. 1895)BY REMI OYEYEMISEP 23, 2015243942The good people of Kwara State have been yoking under the tyranny of the Saraki Family for several decades.  They have yoked for so long that it seems that suffering in subjugation has become their second nature.  Others often joke about their supposed docility and assume that this has been responsible for their inexplicable acquiescence to brutal subjugation, enslavement and endless denigration by a single family that has held them to ransom

Vision Or Television, What Does A Lady Choose? by Kola Ola Olaniran

Image
A woman who rejects a man with a vision and follows a man with a television will watch the man with a vision on her husband's television. Stupidity they say, is by choice. How dumb can a lady be? You drove your boyfriend to the gas station to buy gas, after paying for the gas with your own money, you went ahead to pump the gas by yourself while the boyfriend sat comfortably in the car flipping his finger on the phone texting another girlfriends.  It's more common these days to see that men who do less for ladies are the ones who have stronger grips or control over the ladies than the men who truly care and have good visions for themselves and the ladies they crave for. If in the future, things are not working properly for you, you need to reflect on the bad decisions you took in the past or the seeds you sowed in the past that cost you to reap bad crops. The bad decisions you take today will bring a precarious situation you will find yourself in the future.  You ne

UN, Please Rescue Our Girls by Kola Ola Olaniran

Image
Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. It's been 511 days that 276 of our precious girls were kidnapped from their school dormitory by the insurgents in the North East, Nigeria. The abduction of these girls on April 14, 2014 riveted global attention and sparked an international outrage at the lackaidasical attitude of the then civilian regime of ex President Goodluck Jonathan and the United Nation's cold resolve to wade into the situation on time. Among this figure, 57 girls have miraculously escaped when the vehicle conveying them broke down on the road in the thick hour of the night. Since then, there have been public outcries with protests and marches in the cities across the globe. The US First Lady dedicated her 2014 mother's day address to the missing Nigerian girls, their parents and all peace-loving people of the world. Alicia Keys the popular singer raised her voice and her music to clamor for the release of the girls. The new Mayor of New York was

A New Sheriff Is In Town by Femi Adesina

By Femi Adesina Some call it the Buhari bounce. Others describe it as the Buhari effect. Yet some others say it is the Buhari aura. One thing is, however, crystal clear. Things have not been the same in the past 100 days in Nigeria, since Muhammadu Buhari assumed the presidency. A new sheriff has truly come to town.Exactly 100 days ago, he climbed the podium at Eagle Square in Abuja and got inaugurated as president, 30 years after he had been toppled from power as military head of state. He promised to belong to nobody, and to belong to everybody. It is a pledge that still resonates loudly today, and will

Time To Tear Down These Walls by Dele Momodu

And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men it will come to nothing. But if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it, lest you even be found to fight against God.” – Acts of The Apostles 5: 38-39Fellow Nigerians, let me make a quick confession. Our dear country has been very sick. As a matter of fact, we’ve been lying critically prostrate without any concrete attempt to find a cure for our maladies. The reason for the lack of interest is simple and straight-forward.Many of our political leaders are those the Yoruba often refer to as arijenidimodaru (those who thrive in chaos). They must continue to scatter everywhere and scare everyone with their chicanery. That is the only business they know that can yield bountiful harvest. They do not care how many of our citizens would suffer untold hardship in the process.I’m an unrepentant disciple of the founder father and first President of the Republic of Ghana, Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah

Goodbye Our Dear Kabiyesi by Dele Momodu

Fellow Nigerians, let me confess that my trip to the ancient city of Ife last Thursday was a most harrowing experience. As a matter of fact, the drive itself was very smooth devoid of the usual hurly-burly on that notorious Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. We set forth on our journey around noon not knowing what to expect along the way. Road travel in Nigeria has defied common logic. You require methods to the malfeasance and madness of our dare-devil drivers. We drove all the way to Ibadan without any major drama of bottlenecks and we thanked God for journey mercies. The second leg of our journey was from Ibadan to Ile-Ife. We tried to navigate our way from the ubiquitous gridlock around Iwo Road and meandered our way through the backstreet towards the Ibadan Airport to link up the Ife Road without much ado. The trouble came where we least expected. As we approached the Asejire Dam which used to be one of my favourite sights as a kid, we suddenly noticed a logjam ahead. Many passengers had a

Open Letter To Saraki by Sola Salako

Dear Dr Bukola Saraki, I have restrained myself from commenting on the confusion that the NASS has suddenly become under your watch for many reasons, top of which was because I felt some conflict was normal in a political party that was a marriage of necessity amongst warlords with differing political orientation and philosophy. I however assumed that since we fought so hard together to effect Change for the sake of country, you all will be guided by the patriotic zeal to put Nigeria first...I assumed WRONG!Frankly, I had no angst that you emerged Senate President because, as the Senate Rule says, it is an election of one by his peers. You actually had a right to aspire and most Nigerians were willing to cut you some slack on the issue...however, you were too impatient and hasty by the ambush strategy you employed...tantamount to a hostile takeover of the Upper Chambers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria! If you had been less arrogant and desperate, you could have still won that electi

Will Nigerians Miss Ex Ist Lady Patience Jonathan?

Of course! For her grammatical notoriety, the Nigeria's Ex first Lady Dame Patience will be missed for the way she took off wrinkles from the faces of many Nigerians. A bad person they say has his or her useful days and those useful days were the hallmark of madam Patience's entertainment of Nigerians with her grammatical cuisine. Whenever anyone is in a bad mood, just remember few of these words and laugh of your sorrows. Dame loves fame. I will miss Jonathan ooo. Now that Buhari has won, will Buhari's wife make Nigerians laugh and forget their sorrows like First Lady Dame Faka Patience Jonathan did? This woman has increased the life span of an average Nigerian. Her husband ex President Goodluck Jonathan holds doctorate degree (Phd) in zoology but the wife is a mismatch and a social misfit.---Few examples of her "Award Winning Speeches" include: 1- * Nigeria is a great CONTINENT. 2- * My husband Jonathan and Sambo IS good people. 3- * I rather KILL mysel

"Let The Action Begin"- Dele Momodu writes President Buhari

Your Excellency, please permit me to start by congratulating you on your swearing-in as Nigeria’s President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Sir, it has been a very long and arduous journey back to the State House; such an epic battle, to say the least. Yours is an eloquent confirmation of the dictum that it is never over until it is over. There is a lesson for all to learn in your uncommon determination, extraordinary tenacity, great perseverance and tremendous patience and equanimity. According to William Shakespeare “all is well that ends well.”Now that you’re back in power, it is time to settle down quickly to govern a particularly delicate country as well as a very sensitive people. It is not that Nigerians are too difficult to govern but the fact is that our expectations are rather huge after suffering for far too long in the midst of plenty. An average Nigerian voted for you in the hope that you have the magic wand to turn mass poverty into abundant prosperity. As
