Lateef Jakande Dies At 91

 Former governor of Lagos State and Minister of Works and Housing, Alhaji Lateef Jakande is dead.



A veteran journalist, Jakande popularly known as baba kekere (mini Awolowo) was  governor of the state in the second republic.


A man of simplicity, Jakande who lived in his own Ilupeju private house governed the state from October 1979 till December 1983.


His tenure witnessed rapid growth in the development of the state, among his achievements are the construction of low-cost housing estates, ferry services from Apapa to CMS Lagos, free education for primary and secondary school students, free health care services, preservation of lives and properties.


Throughout his tenure, there was no record of financial improprieties or abuse of office. Alhaji Jakande who had no penchant for acquisition of wealth and materialism lived a quiet and decent life.


Baba kekere’s wealth of experience will be missed.
